  8. My family and I got to travel to Portland, OR, to visit my wife's sister and family the second week of July. It was a perfect time to leave as it was in the 90s here most of the week and the 70s and 80s there. Whereas it made the beach a little cold, that didn't stop the Piersons from playing in the waves.

  9. Took Gary Pierson's advice and headed to Montana! Gary could have a second career as a travel agent. Did NOT encounter any bears -- Hallelujah!

  12. Most of our summer has involved baseball as Dylan (13) and Braden (11) have been keeping the moxi (mom taxi) running full speed. The boys opted to delay our summer vacation until Spring Break to spend a week on a beach in the Dominican. Any recommendations?

  13. We took a week-vacation to Key West, FL for a family wedding. I assisted a friend in installing a pool and deck. 14. We had a vacation to Texas for family visits and fun. I planted nearly 100 perennial flowers and grasses, spent every day with my children, and did some inside DIY jobs. My gymnast Jillian broke her foot in late July putting a damper on some plans. Overall, it's been a quiet, restorative summer.

  23. The best part of my summer was the 2-week traveling with my family to the Outer Banks NC, Memphis, and Beaver Lake (Arkansas)! While not traveling, I helped my 13-yr old build a platform bed for his room and taught swim lessons at my neighborhood pool.

  29. This summer has been whirlwind! After summer school (and an amazing trip to the FLEX conference), I took a crew of 10 kids to yearbook camp in Des Moines, Iowa. They did amazing work and LHS students swept the awards ceremony! Then I spent time with family in South Carolina. I also joined a flag football team with my husband, which has provided some great comedic relief for the summer.

  30. This summer just flew by. I took a class on special education law for my master's. We traveled to Heidelberg/Germany and I got to enjoy some much needed time with family and friends there. We also took a short trip to Paris and visited my aunt in New York on our way back to KC. Additionally, I let Jillian Michaels torture me through various workout videos and I jogged my very first 5K. My son is studying for his permit and will also be a freshmen at LHS. I am looking forward to him driving me to school. I am sure I will be "air breaking" on many occasions. Christine Hernandez

  31. This summer our baseball players competed at a very high level against some of the best competition in the midwest. Both varsity and JV had winning records. I got to go Cancun in June for my sisters wedding. My fiancee and I got to tour the Mayan port city of Tulum while in Mexico and had a blast learning more about their lifestyle. The whole all inclusive resort thing was not too shabby either! In conclusion, it was an amazing summer.
